Intel Xeon E3-1200 V5 officially launched

Tuesday, 17 November 2015 12:22:48 Europe/London

The Intel Xeon E3-1200 V5 Skylake Server Processors have now officially launched, here are some quick details on the new CPU's. Not much has changed from E3 V3. Still offering all the same SKU's as before, just updated to the new 1151 Skylake architecture. Vendors seem to be taking advantage of the Greenlow platform’s eight SATA 3.0 ports such as all the new Supermicro X11 E3 V5 motherboards. The Intel C236 PCH can be found on almost every vendor’s platform whereas previous generations we saw lower end PCHs used. As with all new Intel processor launches, the new chips are available for same pricing as the previous generation.

Here is the comparison chart:

ASRock Rack EPC612D4I Xeon E5 Mini-ITX Review

Tuesday, 7 July 2015 12:41:00 Europe/London

Following the release of the ASRock X99E-ITX, the first X99 Mini-ITX motherboard on the market, ASRock Rack - ASRock's Server division have decided to follow suit and release their own LGA2011-3 Mini-ITX Server board. This is very much the first of its kind in the server market and offers users a very small form factor ITX motherboard with very high levels of compute.

One of the main issues with the X99E-ITX was its 2 x DDR4 DIMM slots. While it was great they managed fit standard length slots on the board it limited you to just two channels and therefore only supported 16GB of total memory, however the EPC612D4I from ASRock Rack moves to SO-DIMM modules and elegantly fits one DIMM per channel within a 17cm x 17cm footprint for quad channel support.
